On
May 18th, 2004 at approximately 7:00 pm a fatal crash
occurred involving a 1988 GMC S15 pickup and a 1981
Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The operator of the motorcycle fourty-eight-year-old
David Ronald Coburn died at the scene.
The
driver of the pick-up forty-three-year-old Antonio
Pacheco Daponte is facing charges of Impaired Driving,
Driving While Over .08 and Dangerous Driving Causing
Death in Surrey Provincial Court. Daponte remains
in custody pending a show cause hearing.
Circumstances of the crash: The pick-up was traveling
west on 24 Avenue while the motorcycle was traveling
north on 232 street. According to witnesses the collision
occurred in the intersection of 24 Avenue and 232
Street when the driver of the pick-up failed to stop
at the stop sign. This is Langley's fourth fatal motor
vehicle crash of the year and the third that involves
the operator of a motorcycle as the victim. Motorcycle
operators are among the most vulnerable road user,
in all of the fatal motorcycle incidents this year
in Langley the actions of the operator of the motorcycle
did not cause the crash.
