Doug Towle (pronounced tol) was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. Canada. He first picked up the guitar at age 12 and began studying with a fervor, emulating his hero's like Al Dimeola and Paco De Lucia. He studied jazz and classical theory throughout high school and college with some of the top instructors in Canada.
Through his experience fronting several Jazz outfits during that period he developed remarkable technique and precision in his playing yet managed to maintain a great sense of musicality.
After college he became a fixture in the Vancouver club and original rock scene and remained an in demand live player throughout the early nineties. He began focusing on his acoustic guitar work around 1997. He left the world of loud rock clubs behind and started regularly playing solo performances in smaller venues around Vancouver.
Doug formed De La Terra, his Neuvo Flamenco band, in 2000 and released their first album "Lluvia" that same year. In no time at all De La Terra became one of the busiest and most in demand live acts in the Vancouver area and continues to perform and delight audiences constantly.
De La Terra's second album "Rhythm and Passion", released in July 2003, is a real development in Doug's compositions and guitar playing. Their busy schedule of live shows has honed his material and musicianship into a stunning blend of talent and entertainment.
Doug released "Nine Days Later", his first album of solo acoustic guitar music in early 2002. It is a stunning example of his craftsmanship as a composer as well as his prowess as a player. His ability to use his guitar as a melodic, rhythmic and percussive instrument all at once is something few people are able to achieve and Doug does so with amazing finesse and artistry.
He has played with such greats as Don Ross and Peppino D'Agostino, who have called Doug a "great player" with "great songs".
Doug is now an in demand session player and educator as well as an accomplished producer and engineer. He continues to push the abilities of himself and his instrument to create music that is both complex and lyrical.
