Rae
Dawn Irving was born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised
on the West Coast of British Columbia. She is an accomplished
song-writer whose early influences were folk, gospel,
jazz and blues music. A passionate singer with a unique
style Rae Dawn deems herself "alternative urban folk".
Her performance experience includes countless coffee
-house venues around Canada, where she has sung her
own compositions. She has also appeared on Cable T.
V. shows and played for Community Radio broadcasts.
Rae Dawn's versatile appearances as a community performer
have placed her more in the local; spotlight over
the years. Rae Dawn resides in White Rock and continues
to write and perform.
This
latest two song demo. CD features her original compositions
"Dancing on the Water" and "Ancestry". "Dancing on
the Water" was written to celebrate a spiritual experience.
The violin, and featured in the song, has been in
Rae Dawn's family for 200 years. The instrument adds
depth and a haunting quality to and already moving
emotional song.
Family
is the focal point of the song "Ancestry". Rae Dawn's
heritage is Metis. In this song she has conveyed the
deep, insightful relationship she had with her father
through the memorable lyrics of this second cut on
the CD.
Both
of these carefully crafted tunes give the listener
an opportunity to appreciate the extraordinaty range
of Rae Dawn's talent as a singer songwriter.
